Back to November 2022 News Update

Harmonisation of WHS laws aims to create consistency of laws, regulations, standards and practices, so that the same rules will apply across Australia no matter where someone works.

Harmonisation of WHS policy remains of key importance to Safe Work Australia. Our Members are crucial to ensuring national collaboration, coordination and consensus building to gain national support for changes to the model WHS laws.

Safe Work Australia works towards a nationally consistent approach to WHS policy wherever possible. This is demonstrated for example, when Members work collaboratively to ensure the model WHS laws or national guidance reflects the best of jurisdictional progress. Safe Work Australia Members also take opportunities to leverage jurisdictional resources or learnings to increase consistency of approach to WHS guidance across the jurisdictions.
