Before applying for a job with us, you will need to consider your eligibility for employment with us. There are some mandatory conditions that you will need to meet.

Citizenship

To be eligible for employment with us, you must be an Australian citizen. Only in exceptional circumstance will we consider waiving this requirement.

Pre-employment checks

As part of our pre-employment check, you will need to:

Security clearance

The applicant kit will state the security clearance required for a role. You must be able to obtain and maintain that level of clearance.

More information on the security clearance vetting process is available on the Australian Government Security Vetting Agency (AGSVA) website.

Formal qualifications

Some of our positions may require formal qualifications. Where relevant, we’ll ask you to provide evidence of your qualification before starting with us.

Probation

If we offer you ongoing employment and you’re not already an ongoing APS employee, you may undergo a 6-month probation period.

If we offer you non-ongoing employment you may undergo a 6-month probation period, depending on how long the contract is.

Redundancy

If you have taken a voluntary redundancy from the APS, you may not be eligible to apply for certain jobs.

You can check your exclusion period and get more information from the Australian Public Service Commission.
