Social media

Safe Work Australia uses social media to share information about the Agency and for the purpose of distributing information about work health and safety (WHS) and workers’ compensation arrangements to the public. 

Our functions include developing and implementing national education and communication strategies and initiatives to support improvements in WHS outcomes and workers’ compensation arrangements. 

Our functions also include promoting national consistency in such strategies and initiatives.

Social media terms of use

You may express your views, comments, ideas, insights about or criticisms of Safe Work Australia on our social media channels. We welcome comments on our social media and online channels, provided you treat others with respect and courtesy. 

If you participate on our social media pages, you are taken to have agreed to our terms of use. These rules apply in addition to the terms of service of each social media platform. 

You are responsible for your contributions on our social media channels. Engaging in the following conduct on our social media channels is against our terms of use:

  • posting personal information such as addresses, phone numbers, email addresses or other contact details or sensitive information relating either to you or other individuals 
  • naming a business or employer
  • impersonating or falsely claiming to represent a person or an organisation when posting on our pages
  • engaging in any other unfair, disrespectful, inappropriate or unlawful conduct. 

We reserve the right to remove posts on our social media pages that don’t comply with our terms of use. 

Content will also be deleted and may be reported if it contains, or appears or is likely to contain, material which:

  • is defamatory
  • is a breach of the copyright licence attached to the material of another individual or organisation
  • uses obscene or insulting language or images
  • is sexist, racist, offensive, harassing, discriminatory or vilifying
  • is bullying, humiliating, threatening, intimidating or violent
  • is fraudulent
  • is irrelevant, misinformation or misleading
  • is spam, advertising or promotes commercial interests
  • contains confidential, personal information or sensitive information
  • relates to a past or present workplace investigation or legal matter
  • links to irrelevant pages or websites (e.g. resources which do not relate to work health and safety or workers’ compensation).

If your contribution uses material that you do not own, you must give attribution to the author of that material and it is your responsibility to ensure you comply with any copyright licence attached to that material.  

We reserve the right to ignore, block or delete posts and users that may breach our terms of use.

There may be times when contributions that breach the terms of use appear on a channel before they can be removed. Please contact Safe Work Australia via email if you become aware of any post or comment that you believe is in breach of the terms of use. Safe Work Australia will respond to the issue by taking appropriate action, and where necessary, may refer the incident to the relevant law enforcement authority for investigation.

Safe Work Australia may amend or update its terms of use at any time.

Following and followers

We may elect to not follow the organisations or individuals who follow Safe Work Australia.

Safe Work Australia may follow relevant organisations including government agencies, organisations in the work health and safety industry, and other parties where there is a benefit in creating a connection to share communications and receive information.

Where Safe Work Australia follows an organisation or individual on social media, this does not suggest that Safe Work Australia represents or endorses the work, actions or social media posts of that organisation or individual. 

Sharing and liking

On occasion, we may share content from other Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter users.

Safe Work Australia takes reasonable care in sharing content from other social media users, but has no direct control over the shared content, or the changes that may occur to the shared content on external social media accounts. It is the responsibility of the user to make their own decisions about the accuracy, currency, reliability and correctness of information contained on other Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter users.

Where Safe Work Australia shares or likes content from other social media users (on platforms such as Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter) the liking or sharing of that user’s content in no way constitutes an endorsement or a recommendation by Safe Work Australia of any material on the other social media user’s site, or of any third-party products, services, actions, or social media posts of that user’s content.


Safe Work Australia may collect your personal information, such as your name, for the purposes of administering its social media channels and for responding to your comment or enquiry posted on those channels.

Our collection, use and disclosure of your personal information is regulated by the Australian Privacy Principles

Our Privacy Policy sets out how we collect, use and disclose your personal information and is available on our website. It outlines:

  • your right to access and correct your personal information if you think it is inaccurate, out of date, incomplete, irrelevant or misleading.
