Safe Work Australia is undertaking a Best Practice Review of the model Work Health and Safety (WHS) Act and model WHS Regulations to consider best practice approaches in the context of strengthening and maintaining harmonisation of WHS laws.
As part of the Review, we’ve released additional surveys for workers (including health and safety representatives) and employers to learn more about how WHS laws are experienced in practice. We want to hear what’s working well and where improvements could be made.
If you’re an employer or business owner, the employer survey is your opportunity to share how current WHS laws affect your operations.
Workers and health and safety representatives (HSRs) are invited to complete the worker and HSR survey to share their experiences with WHS in the workplace. If you're an HSR, there's a short additional section specific to that role.
The surveys are short and easy to complete. Your insights will help inform Safe Work Australia’s Best Practice Review.
The new surveys complement the existing discussion paper, general survey and submission process for the Best Practice Review which are available on our Consultation Hub. The closing date for all 3 surveys is now 5:00 pm ADST Sunday 30 November. The closing dates for submissions remains 5:00 pm ADST Sunday 3 November 2025.
In addition to the formal consultation process, Safe Work Australia will continue to meet with interested stakeholders until March 2026.
The final review report will be provided to WHS ministers in mid-2026.
