Workplace exposure standards for airborne contaminants (2024)
Under the model WHS Regulations, persons conducting a business or undertaking must ensure that no person at the workplace is exposed to an airborne contaminant at a level above the exposure standard in the Workplace exposure standards for airborne contaminants.
This document is the list of workplace exposure standards (WES list).
The WES list has been updated to reflect WHS ministers’ agreement to reduce the WES for welding fumes (not otherwise classified) from 5 mg/m3 to 1 mg/m3. The change to the WES for welding fumes will take effect when implemented in jurisdictional laws. Contact your work health and safety or mining regulator for information on the laws that apply in your jurisdiction.
For more information about the change please go to the Welding fumes page.
