How we source the data
Our preliminary estimates come from:
- initial media reports
- states and territories
- other publicly available information.
To get more information about the death, we work with:
- Work health and safety (WHS) authorities
- the National Coronial Information System
- workers’ compensation data.
How we use the data
This dataset informs Quadwatch, which aims to:
- raise awareness of safe quad bike practices
- minimise risk of a quad bike fatality or injury with practical advice.
Overview
In 2023: 5 Australians have been killed from a quad bike.
In the past 5 years (2018 to 2022):
- There were 74 quad bike deaths.
- 10 people died in 2022
- 11 people died in 2021
- The highest number of quad bike deaths occurred in 2020 (23).
- 8 people died in 2019
- 11 people died in 2018
