Changes to chemical classifications and labelling under GHS 7
Australia uses the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) to classify and label chemicals.
From 1 January 2021, Australia began the transition from GHS 3 to GHS 7 for workplace hazardous chemicals. The transition period is for two years and will end on 31 December 2022.
This information sheet explains the changes between GHS 3 and GHS 7, including:
requirements for labels and safety data sheets
additional hazard categories and classes
updates to precautionary statements.
It will be useful for people who classify hazardous chemicals for use in the workplace.
This document is part of a collection about our transition to GHS 7.
