Minister O'Dwyer asks employers and workers in all workplaces and industries to commit to taking a safety moment every day this October.
Ladies and gentlemen, it’s my pleasure to launch National Safe Work Month for 2018.
Every year in October employers and workers participate in National Safe Work Month. It’s a time to commit to building safer workplaces for all Australians, a time to ensure your workplace is free from physical and psychological harm and that every Australian has a right to do their job safely and free from harm
We are lucky that Australia is one of the safest places in the world to work. But even though we are doing well, no industry should be unsafe to work in and no death or injury is acceptable.
The costs of poor work health and safety are significant and the financial cost is borne by the entire community.
Injury or death in the workplace changes individuals and families’ lives forever. This October I ask that you take a moment to consider what workplace safety means to you
This can be as simple as spending some time with your workmates talking about your workplace.
The National Safe Work Month website has posters, data, videos and ideas to help you take a safety moment and raise awareness of safety in your workplace.
And, please, share your ideas and thoughts online using the “my safety moment” hashtag.
While an incident can happen in a moment, a moment’s forethought can prevent harm. So this October, take a moment for workplace safety.
