Currently, no information system exists in Australia which in its present form, can provide, on a continuous or annual basis, national data on emergency department visits (or services provided) due to injury, or to subsets of injuries, such as those due to work-related exposures.
Using available data from Victoria and Queensland the project was aimed at providing an analysis of recent presentations to emergency departments as a result of work-related injury.
It includes consideration of the role of emergency departments as a source of information on work-related injuries, and a description of the current status of progress towards development of a national emergency department data set.
