These guidelines are intended for use by the appointed medical practitioner when planning and implementing a program of health surveillance. The purpose of health surveillance is to ensure that control measures are effective and to provide an opportunity to reinforce specific preventive measures and safe work practices.
This Guidance document has not been updated to reflect the requirements of the harmonised Work Health and Safety (WHS) laws. Until such time that Safe Work Australia revises this material, it continues to be available as a source of practical guidance, and will contribute to industry state of knowledge, to assist those who must comply with the harmonised WHS laws.
