5th Annual Safe Work Australia Awards


The 5th Annual Safe Work Australia Awards (the national Awards) are the premier occupational health and safety (OHS) awards in Australia. They acknowledge excellence in OHS at a government, organisational and individual level.

The 36 finalists across four award categories have been selected for the national Awards ceremony in 2010. A national judging panel is now considering each finalist’s award entry. The winners will be announced on the annual World Day for Health and Safety at Work on 28 April 2010 in Canberra.

Award categories: 

CATEGORY 1: Best Workplace Health and Safety Management System

A winner will be awarded in both of the following sub-categories: 
    • Private Sector 
    • Public Sector

CATEGORY 2: Best Solution to an Identified Workplace Health and Safety Issue 

CATEGORY 3: Best Workplace Health and Safety Practice/s in Small Business

CATEGORY 4: Best Individual Contribution to Workplace Health and Safety

A winner will be awarded in both of the following sub-categories:

a. An employee, such as a health and safety representative, who does not have formal responsibility for OHS management as part of their duties;

b. An outstanding contribution by an OHS manager or a person with responsibility for OHS as part of their duties.

The national Awards finalists were winners of their state, territory and Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Commission awards. Further information on how you can submit into an OHS award in your state or territory can be found by visiting the relevant website listed below.
