Safety Ambassador Rod McKenzie
Background information
I have been assisting staff with safety for 12 years. I now work full time at National Risk Solutions training staff from a number of occupations and locations around Australia in safety in the workplace. I train in Cert IV and Diploma in OH&S as well as a number of non-accredited courses such as Safety for Supervisors and Managers.
Why workplace safety is important to me
I have a passion for keeping all workplaces as safe as they can possibly be. I endeavour to pass on that passion to everyone with whom I interact. I believe that having a safety culture in the workplace is the only option for a successful business and should be part of the business plan for all companies, independent of their size.
My plans for national Safe Work Australia Week
1. Special Safe Work Australia Week sessions in all training courses that week. Sessions in the previous weeks will encourage all participants to conduct special activities in their own workplaces and explore options for participation
2. Free seminars being offered to the local small businesses about “OHS for small businesses and their role”.
3. Negotiating to have a BBQ on the footpath outside our premises to promote safety to the people walking by.
Why I accepted the role as a national Safe Work Australia Week Safety Ambassador
Promoting safety in the workplace is the role of every professional and I use every opportunity to raise safety issues in conversations both at work and socially. Being an ambassador is the most obvious choice as I have participated in Safe Work Australia Week for a number of years at my previous employment.
