Why workplace safety is important to me
In both my substantive role and as Acting CEO, I am committed to WorkCover’s aims and objectives, which are to work towards a vision of safe, secure and productive workplaces. A safe workplace is a productive workplace. WorkCover’s vision reflects the positive influence workplace safety has on improving an organisation’s productivity. This is achieved through the reduction of workplace accidents and illness and the effective management of injured workers within the workers compensation system.
My plans for national Safe Work Australia Week
WorkCover is the principal sponsor of the 2009 Safety Show and Conference in Sydney, held during Safe Work Australia Week. WorkCover will host an interactive stand, hold a series of workshops and host the sixth annual NSW Safe Work Awards. The winners are eligible to be entered into the National Safe Work Awards in early 2010.
Why I accepted the role as a national Safe Work Australia Week Safety Ambassador
It is an honour to be a national Safe Work Australia Week Safety Ambassador. This opportunity allows me to spread the word about safe work practices, which will in turn reduce fatalities and serious incidents in the workplace. Safety is everybody’s business. We all want our family members to return home safely at the end of the working day and we all want injured workers to be able to achieve sustainable return to work outcomes.
