Why workplace safety is important to me
To ensure employees go home in the same manner that they come to work in. I like mentoring and coaching new WHSO to assist them in gaining confidence to do their role in a sometimes negative environment. I also enjoy working and listening to employees to look at other options in which tasks can be completed and pass this onto other regions within the department with similar activities for consistency.
As a Rehabilitation Co-ordinator I believe in the communication line with Management, Supervisors and employees to assist in getting them back to work as soon as possible.
My plans for national Safe Work Australia Week
Each of the regions is completing an activity relevant to there region. Our department has merged with another department and the new department is to launch its OH&S strategic plan.
Why I accepted the role as a national Safe Work Australia Week Safety Ambassador
It is important to me to keep OH&S up front in managers, supervisors and employees minds so that it is integrated into daily activities and not treated as an add on.
My Managers recognisation of my commitment to Safety by nominating me for the Safe Work Week Awards in 2008 and being able to meet other entrants who have the same commitment and challenges.
