Safety Ambassador Nicole Page
Background information
I work as an Occupational Health Officer for Delta Electricity on the Central Coast of NSW. I am a Registered Nurse/Return to Work Co-ordinator with a Grad. Dip in OHS. I have worked with complex Injury management cases for more than 20 years and understand the wide scope of impact of injury on injured employees and their families.
Why workplace safety is important to me
I have worked for the last 20 years in the Electricity Generation Industry assisting injured workers to restore their personal, physical and psychological health after injury. As a result I am passionate about Safety and being proactive to prevent injury and illness in the workplace.
My plans for national Safe Work Australia Week
Delta Maintenance are celebrating the week with a Safety BBQ lunch in both regions (Central Coast and Wester). On the Central Coast prior to the lunch we have a guest speaker from The Prostate Cancer Foundation discussing Prostate Disease.
We are also providing Delta Maintenance employees with an Aluminium Water Bottle Gift to promote our Hydration Therapy Toolbox talk in time for the summer months.
Everyday I will email to our Team Leaders Toolbox talks (short 10min) presentations on Safety related topics.
Some of OHS Committee members will be attending the Sydney Safety Show with me to view the latest products/new ideas in safety.
Why I accepted the role as a national Safe Work Australia Week Safety Ambassador
I have actively promoted Safe Work Week at Delta Electricity for the last 2 years and it has offered me a creative opportunity to promote Safety intensively for a week throughout the organization. I predominantly work in the area of injury management so I know intimately the end result when safety systems fail and an employee is hurt. I use the week to promote the Safe Work message to all employees to highlight our own safety systems and other safety related material.
Previous Safe Work Weeks have been positively received with great feedback through emails and team discussions. It gave me personal satisfaction to promote safety proactively.
