Safety Ambassador Barry Leahy
Background information
Mr Barry Leahy is Deputy Director-General, Department of Justice and Attorney-General. This department has responsibility for workplace health and safety and workers’ compensation policy in Queensland. Mr Leahy was previously the Chief Executive Officer of Comcare and holds a Bachelor of Economics degree.
Why workplace safety is important to me
I do not want to see people who I work with injured or become unwell at work. Safety at work must be a fundamental right of workers.
My plans for national Safe Work Australia Week
WHSQ has a comprehensive program of SWAW activities throughout Queensland. I will be attending a number of these activities.
Why I accepted the role as a national Safe Work Australia Week Safety Ambassador
WHS is a critical component of my role. I have worked in this area for many years and have seen first hand the effect of serious WHS incidents. I am committed to ensuring Queensland has safe and healthy workplaces.
