OHS Training Courses and Training Organisations
Who provides OHS training for workplaces?
OHS training is generally available from:
- State/Territory/Commonwealth OHS Authorities
- educational institutions eg TAFEs, universities
- employer bodies and industry associations
- trade unions & their organisations eg. State/Territory Trades & Labour Councils
- private OHS service organisations
- training consultants.
Others who may provide or advise on OHS training are:
- associations of OHS professionals
- technical or scientific organisations
- manufacturers/suppliers.
Training for licensed or certificated operations
Most OHS jurisdictions require that certain `high risk' jobs are only undertaken by suitably trained and `certified' or licensed operators. Scaffolding rigging, crane and hoist operation and pressure equipment operation are some of these.
Training for these certificates or licences in most jurisdictions (State/Territories/Commonwealth) is provided by Registered Training Organisations. OHS Authorities issue the licenses which are accepted in all jurisdictions in Australia.
For specific requirements and the range of licences required contact the OHS Authority in your state or territory.
Information on specific competencies can be found on the National Training Information Service
