The Hazardous Substances Regulatory Package forms a blueprint for the legislative control of hazardous substances used in the workplace. The regulatory package consists of model regulations and national standards that are used as the basis for State and Territory regulations, codes of practice and guidance material.
The National Dangerous Goods Framework is intended to ensure the effective control of the hazards and risks associated with the storage and handling of dangerous goods, so as to protect the safety and health of workers and the public as well as the protection of property and the environment. The Framework is performance-based, incorporating the principles of hazard identification, risk assessment and risk control. The intent of the framework is to ensure the effective control of the storage and handling of dangerous goods.
National exposure standards represent airborne concentrations of individual chemical substances which, according to current knowledge, should neither impair the health of nor cause undue discomfort to nearly all workers.
