Safe Work Australia uses a range of data to inform the development and evaluation of policies relating to work health and safety and workers’ compensation. Workers’ compensation data is the main source of information for work-related injuries in Australia.

Key statistics

The Key Work Health and Safety Statistics Booklet Australia 2014 provides a statistical summary of work-related injuries, diseases and fatalities.

The Australian Workers’ Compensation Statistics 2011-12 provides a detailed analysis of serious workers’ compensation claims. Further information on workers’ compensation data is available on the workers’ compensation data page.

The Work-related Traumatic Injury Fatalities reports provide a detailed analysis of work-related injury fatalities.

The links below provide access to national, industry-level statistics describing the frequency and incidence rates of serious workers’ compensation claims. A serious claim is an accepted workers’ compensation claim that involves a total of one or more weeks of time lost from work and excludes all fatalities and all claims associated with travelling to or from work or while on a break away from the workplace.
