Analysis from the ABS Work-related injuries survey showed that nearly half of all workers in the Agriculture, forestry and fishing industry were self-employed in 2005–06 and were therefore not eligible for workers’ compensation and that many employees who were eligible did not apply for compensation for their work-related injury. The Work-related injuries 2005-06: Agriculture Forestry and Fishing Industry report shows that employees recorded an injury incidence rate nearly 30 per cent higher than the rate for self employed workers.
