National Safe Work Australia Week
National Safe Work Australia Week will be held in 2013 from Sunday 27 October to Saturday 2 November.
2013 Safe Work Australia Week follows a very successful Week in 2012 in which 699 Australians became Safety Ambassadors.
The 2012 theme was Safety begins with ‘S’ but starts with ‘YOU’. It recognised that everyone is responsible for health and safety and leading their business to a safer workplace.

Safe Work Australia Week Safety Ambassador Patron
The Hon Bill Shorten MP, Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations was proud to be the Safety Ambassador Patron for the eighth annual Safe Work Australia Week.

Safety Ambassador of the Year Award
Jacinta Macaulay from Ron Finemore Transport was this year’s winner of the Safety Ambassador of the Year Award.
The Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations, the Hon Bill Shorten MP presented the Award to Ms Macaulay at a ceremony at Australian Parliament House, Canberra on Wednesday 31 October 2012.
In presenting the award Minister Shorten recognised the commitment to improving work health and safety demonstrated by Ms Macaulay.
The initiatives Ms Macaulay highlighted as part of her entry included the development of customised solutions like the ‘Fifth Wheel Coupling Aid’ and retro fitting of chequer plating to truck access ladders. Ms Macaulay also introduced the ‘Air Hawk Truck Seat’ to minimise injuries for truck drivers and helped develop work health and safety training for new starters.
The Safety Ambassador of the Year Award was open to individuals who demonstrated a commitment to improving work health and safety in their organisation in 2011-12. It recognised those who lead by example, raise the awareness of the importance of a safe working environment and encourage others to become involved in work health and safety.
Congratulations to Jacinta Macaulay for winning this year’s Safety Ambassador of the Year Award and to all the entrants for their continued effort in work health and safety.
