Australian Work Health and Safety Strategy 2012-2022

The Australian Work Health and Safety Strategy 2012-2022 provides a nationally coordinated approach to work health and safety. It has been developed by working Australians for working Australians and is designed to be realistic and something they can relate to, implement and sustain for the coming decade.

Through various forms of consultation, a range of action areas and strategic outcomes were identified for the Strategy. These form the key steps to help achieve the Strategy’s ultimate vision—healthy, safe and productive working lives for all Australians.

Over the next decade, the nature of Australian businesses and how work is carried out will continue to change in response to economic pressures, technological changes and demographic shifts. These changes will bring new risks and new opportunities for improving work health and safety.

The Australian Work Health and Strategy sets the framework for continued improvement in work health and safety across Australia until 2022.

A public comment period for the draft Australian Work Health and Safety Strategy 2012-2022 was open for six weeks from 26 March 2012.

The input received during the public comment period will help shape the final Strategy and ultimately the future coordination of work health and safety in Australia over the next decade.
