The European Union (EU) was set up to progress matters of joint interest democratically at European level. The countries that make up the EU (its member states) remain independent sovereign nations, but they “pool” their sovereignty to gain strength and world influence.
European Agency for Safety and Health at Work
One of the agencies set up as part of the EU is the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EASHW) that was established in 1996. Its mission is to make Europe's workplaces safer, healthier and more productive. This is achieved by bringing together and sharing knowledge and information, to promote a culture of risk prevention.
The Agency is a tripartite in its nature and as such works with governments, employers and workers representatives. The Agency is a single point of reference for OHS information.
Safe Work Australia and EASHW
Safe Work Australia and the EASHW work together to promote the sharing of information on current health and safety topics of common interest.
