Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation (APEC) is a forum for facilitating economic growth, co-operation, trade, and investment in the Asia-Pacific region. APEC is the only inter-governmental grouping in the world operating on the basis of non-binding commitments, open dialogue and equal respect for the views of all participants. It requires no treaty obligations of its members, decisions made within APEC are reached by consensus, and commitments are undertaken on a voluntary basis.
APEC has many initiatives to promote economic growth, co-operation, trade and investment across many industries. One such initiative is the Chemical Dialogue.
Chemical Dialogue
The APEC Chemical Dialogue is a forum in which officials and industry representatives from Member Economies discuss trade and economic challenges facing the chemical industry and users of chemicals.
The Chemical Dialogue is one of APEC’s industry dialogues, which reflect APEC members’ recognition of the importance of engaging with the private sector and building public-private sector dialogue and co-operation for mutual benefit.
Safe Work Australia and APEC
The Chemical Standards Section of Safe Work Australia, when required, contributes comments to the APEC Chemical Dialogue through the Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research as they are the lead Australian government agency representing Australia in the APEC forum. The Chemical Standards Section usually provides advice in relation to compliance with GHS requirements in regards to workplace training, classification and labelling.
