Compendium of Workers Compensation Statistics

This annual publication provides a general overview of claims lodged each year by employees in Australia to receive compensation for a serious work-related injury or disease. A serious injury involves one or more weeks off work, a permanent disability or fatality. A time series over the previous five years is contained in each edition.

Previous reports should be used with caution as the number of claims is subject to review each year as more claims are accepted by the workers’ compensation authorities. There have also been some major changes in the way data has been reported by jurisdictions which have resulted in substantial changes to the number of serious claims recorded against each year. Time series information is available back to 2000–01 through our Statistics Online database.
