Manual handling risks associated with the care, treatment and transportation of bariatric (severely obese) patients in Australia

Bariatric refers to weight – and for the purposes of this research the term associated with the morbidly obese.

With the increase in obesity in Australia, there is an increasing awareness of the risks that carers of obese and bariatric patients face during the transport and movement of these patients.

The researchers sought to provide relevant and available information regarding the risks involved for all involved in the care of these patients – including in-home treatment; transportation by ambulance and treatment whilst in hostel/hospital care.
