“Having the opportunity to be a national Safety Ambassador will hopefully show others in our industry that ‘tick the box’ compliance is simply not good enough. As an industry we need to take a best practice approach to safety - we can always do better.”
Chris Wales, Cater Care Services and Cater Care Australia
Chris Wales is the Safety and Environment Manager for Cater Care which is the leading privately owned Australian facilities management company. Chris thoroughly enjoyed being a national Safety Ambassador as it was a great chance for him to be a part of a network of like-minded individuals.
“I enjoyed being in touch with many people from my own workplace and other companies and seeing their reactions as they came to learn that safety is about a whole of life approach.”
Alicia Doherty, Hays Specialist Recruitment
Alicia Doherty, a Recruitment Officer at Hays, believes the status of the position as a Safety Ambassador assisted in getting staff involved in the weeks actvities.
“Being a national Safety Ambassador and participating in Safe Work Australia Week increased Hays staff awareness of safety and enthusiasm to be actively involved.
A sense of belonging is so important to staff morale and when they see that others really care about their health and wellbeing, it makes a considerable difference to their attitude.”
