Australian Citizenship
To be eligible for employment with Safe Work Australia you must be an Australian Citizen or be able to provide proof you are expecting to gain citizenship within the next two months.
Probation
If you are offered employment with Safe Work Australia, and are not currently an ongoing employee of the Australian Public Service (APS), your employment will be subject to a 6 month probationary period, during which time your conduct and work performance will be assessed to determine whether they meet the standards required by the Agency. If Safe Work Australia receives reports contrary to any of the above eligibility checks, you may be assessed as unsuitable for employment, at which time the offer may be withdrawn.
Pre Employment National Police Check
If you are offered employment with Safe Work Australia, you will be required to undergo a Pre Employment National Police Check as a condition of employment.
Health Assessment
If you are offered employment with Safe Work Australia and are not currently an ongoing employee of the APS, you will be required to undergo a health assessment. The health assessment is conducted to ensure you have the health and mental capacity to meet the requirements of the position and to identify any adjustments that may need to be made in the workplace. Costs associated with the health assessment are met by the Agency.
Security Clearance
If you are offered employment with Safe Work Australia, you may be required to undergo a security clearance. This will involve completing a security assessment package and providing documentation that contains proof of your claims (e.g. proof of residential address).
Redundancy Benefit
If you have received a redundancy benefit from an APS agency or non-APS Commonwealth employer within the last 12 months you may apply for positions with Safe Work Australia, but the exclusion period based on the level of redundancy benefit received will apply.
